The job of a court reporter can be hard on the body, given that these professionals must take down the spoken word for often hours on end. Specifically, the back and neck can become tight, sore, or downright painful due to long periods of time spent in the same, upright position and the mind can become overworked and foggy.

One of the best ways to relieve stress is to make sure you develop a routine and stay organized. Make sure your steno bag is ready to go and that all materials and items in your bag and organized and well-stocked. After a deposition, immediately mark your exhibits, clean up your transcripts, and get your files off to the scopist in a reasonable amount of time.
Keep a calendar and take a moment to study it at the end of each day as to ensure you are where you need to be at the correct time the following day.
Take a Breather
One of the best ways to stay productive and on the top of your game is to take time for a breather at least once a day. Regardless of what it is, take at least 15 to 30 minutes to do something you enjoy doing each day. Take a walk, listen to music, or read your favorite magazine. An enjoyable activity is one of the best ways to recharge and carry on.
It is also very beneficial to simply take the time to eat a small snack, stretch, and take a few deep breaths when you have 5 to 10 free minutes throughout your day.
Give Yourself a Break
Being perfect isn’t easy on anyone, let alone a seasoned court reporter. Don’t beat yourself up for a misstroke or mistake. Remember: self-compassion results in a happier, more successful you! When you expect to be perfect and when you compare yourself to others, you are setting yourself up for failure. Instead, accept the mistakes you make along the way and work on moving forward, and you will find yourself enjoying a brighter outlook and ultimately suffering from less stress.
